Umpiring
Hockey NT (HNT) will arrange the umpiring for the Territory Premier League (TPL) and Junior games in the Darwin Hockey League.
Each club are required to supply umpires for their club's B Grade and C Grade games for all minor rounds.
WHC have created a roster to fulfil our umpiring obligations, which is available below.
All players in senior teams, over 15 years of age, including casual players, have been included in the roster.
Only WHC life members, committee members, coaches, managers, and TPL nominated umpires are excluded from allocated umpiring commitments.
Your responsibility
If you would like training for umpiring, Hockey Australia have a free community umpiring course available.
All umpires are also welcome to organise a mentor senior umpire to join them for their allocated game. Please contact the club if you wish to find a mentor info@waratahhockeyclub.com.
A Working With Children’s Clearance (Ochre Card) is required for all volunteers, including umpires. Please provide your Ochre Card details to secretary@waratahhockeyclub.com.
If you do not have an Ochre Card, WHC will provide a letter in support of your Volunteer application and refund you the associated costs ($8.00). For more information please email secretary@waratahhockeyclub.com.
If you are unavailable or unwilling to do your own umpiring, you can arrange for someone else to do it for you.
If you decide to pay that person, this is entirely a private matter, and the club will not be held responsible for any related payments.
If you do decide to pay someone, we suggest a fee of $50.
Payment
There will be no payment from HNT or WHC for fulfilling your allocated umpiring commitment.
What happens if you do not fulfil your commitment?
If you do not fulfil your obligation, by either umpiring yourself or arranging for an alternative person to do it, any fine issued by HNT will be passed onto you for payment.
There are also provisions in the rules for the loss of competition points for the team that does not provide an umpire.
