Hello all, Happy New Year!
The new look Indoor Program is fast approaching. As the junior support person for Indoor this year I am writing this in the hope that as clubs we are able to disseminate this information to attract as many of our members and in particular junior members as possible.
The Program this year :
Saturday 25th January a Free Family-Focused, Come-and-Try Hockey Community Day. A wonderful opportunity for clubs and as a sport to positively promote ourselves to the broader Darwin community.

Please if this day could be promoted as widely as possible to encourage not just our hockey community to attend but to others that may wish to be a part of a great community day and help fundraise for the U15 NT Girls Team it would be greatly appreciated.

The decision to give players the option to nominate as an individual is to encourage those players to play without having to organise themselves a team. When assigning junior players to teams I will be keeping in mind families/friendships and club alignments.
This year there is an opportunity for Juniors and Seniors to take on the role of Coaching a side without the burden of organising the team members or handling the finances. To express interest in coaching or umpiring during the indoor season please complete the expression of interest form attached.

In 2019, the Darwin Hockey League (DHL) Under 17 competition will be played in a modified format of 7 a side, to be played on half a field. This format has been agreed upon by the DHL Advisory Panel and the Hockey NT (HNT) Board.
Following the 2018 competition, it has been a priority for all involved to ensure that a clear direction is established and communicated as early as possible. In adopting a modified format, a similar style being played at the Youth Olympic Games, HNT is seeking to provide members with a dynamic form of competition. This will enable members/players to evolve existing & develop new skills and enhance their knowledge of the game while adapting to a new environment.
The learning and development will also extend to coaches. HNT staff are committed to working with coaches to develop their approach to the modified format and to ensure that critical learnings are not restricted to the athlete alone.
As the hockey environment continues to evolve externally, HNT will endeavour to provide services to members which are aligned with the latest national and international trends. Most importantly, HNT’s aim in collaboration with clubs is to provide an enjoyable hockey experience for all.
Welcome to the 2019 season at Waratah Hockey Club. After another fantastic season at Tahs, we are very excited to start 2019 with a bang. We have just had our sign-on day at the Marrara Hockey Centre and it was fantastic to see so many of our members.
On the 30th and 31st March, there will be the Curby’s Pre-season competition and we encourage all our members that play in senior teams to register to play. It is a great couple of days and it also gives our coaches the opportunity to grade players. We are planning some social activities around the pre-season comp so watch this space.
From this week onwards, turf training will be on Thursday nights as follows:
Juniors – 5.30pm
Women – 6.30pm
Men – 7.30pm
Fitness is on Tuesday nights at various locations. Keep an eye out on Facebook to get the details. It starts at 6pm and you will need a towel and water. If you haven’t already, please sign up to our Facebook page. It is a ‘closed group’ and available for members and their families only to join. (All posts are monitored to ensure the group is safe for children and all members of our club).
Hockey NT runs the competition for the Darwin Hockey League and they have advised that competition commences during the first week of April, 2019. We will let you know when the draw is available on the HNT website.
We have a committee this year with lots of new members. Please be patient with us while we find our feet. We are busy setting up, and ironing out problems with, the new registration system.
In the interim, if you have uniform needs, please flag them with Karen Markos ASAP. Her details are provided in the ‘Uniforms’ tab of this website.
Thanks and GO TAHS!
|In 2019, turf training for Waratahs is on a Thursday.
All juniors: 5.30pm – 6.30pm
All senior women: 6.30pm – 7.30pm
All senior men: 7.30pm – 8.30pm
Please note that your coach will let you know if you need to come a bit earlier to have a warm-up run.
Please also look out for new players and introduce them around and make sure they know where they are meant to be. It can be a bit daunting the first few times you come to training and meet a whole lot of new people.
In the past, Waratah Hockey Club has been the target of scammers and fraudsters. If you receive an unusual request from a club member, please contact the club via email at email@example.com and discuss the request in person with the member to check its legitimacy.
If you need to get in touch with a coach or committee member, please email the club at WaratahHC@gmail.com

Thank you to everyone who attended the Junior Presentations. We had a great season and really appreciated all the parents that drive their kids to training, help at BBQ’s and around the club.
Look out for our off season events to be listed soon…
As a sponsor of Waratah Hockey Club, Top End Line Markers couldn’t be any more prouder of the achievements of this club at the Hockey NT Championships on Friday 15th September and Saturday 16th September 2017.
Friday night kicked off with our Under 17 Girls Team defeating East in their Grand Final followed
by the Under 17’s Boys Team defeating Tigers in their Grand Final.
Both games were intense with girls running out winners at the end of normal time, the boys however were drawn at the end of normal time, then played 14 minutes of extra time which still saw them all tied up and won it at the penalty shootout 5 to 4.
Saturday we were back at the Marrara fields again with the Under 14 Girls team up against Banks, another hard fought game which saw our girls run out winners.
Next our Ladies B Grade team took to the field and after a hot, fast and exciting game ran out winners against the East Darwin ladies.
Not to be out done our ladies C Grade game up against the very formidable Tigers ladies and this game nearly ended in a nil all draw, however our Ladies put one into the back of the net just before full time to clinch the game in the dying minutes.
And finally to our Ladies A grade side who took the field against a very capable East Darwin team, from the first hit off our Ladies took control of the game and pushed this right through to the end running out winners at the end of normal time.
As a long Hockey season now closes as a sponsor you cannot ask for a more pleasing result than winning all finals entered, 6 from 6 in total with all grades of the Ladies from Under 14’s to A grade and the Under 17’s Boys final.
Huge congratulations must go out to all involved at the Club from Board Members, fundraising members, Coaches, Managers, Physios, Parents and all Players.
This truly does indicate the strength of the club and we look forward to another positive and rewarding year in 2018.
Pat and Karen Coleman
News from Hockey NT
To Hockey NT Directors, Life Members, Member Associations & Affiliated Clubs
In accordance with Clause 8.2 (b) (i) of the Hockey NT By Laws this email serves as notice for the calling of agenda items for the Hockey NT Forum scheduled to be held on Saturday 30th September 2017 which is scheduled to be held between 9:00am and 2:00pm.t. A confirmed venue for these meetings will be advised by the required deadline to do so. Agenda Items are required to be called fifty (50) days prior to the date of the Forum and this notice meets that requirement.
The closing date for agenda items shall be forty (40) days prior to the notified date of the Forum which means that the agenda items need to be submitted to me in writing, with any supporting comments or documentation, by no later than 5:00pm on Monday 21st August 2017.
It is preferable that any agenda items be submitted by email to this address:- email@example.com
Then, in accordance with Clause 8.2 (a) of the By Laws at least thirty (30) days prior written notice will be provided of the date, time and place of a meeting of the Forum accompanied by a detailed agenda. In accordance with Clause 8.1 (a) of the Hockey NT By Laws the Forum consists of the Directors, Life Members, one Delegate from each Member Association and Affiliated Club and other persons as determined from time to time by the Board.
In accordance with Clause 25 of the Hockey NT By Laws nominations are now sought for the awarding of Service Excellence Awards for 2017, the relevant section is extracted and included below for your reference:
SERVICE EXCELLENCE AWARD
(a) The Association shall recognise outstanding service to the Association by an Individual Member who shall be eligible to receive the service excellence award provided that the nominated member has given at least ten (10)years outstanding service to hockey.
(b) Candidates for the award may be nominated by any Member.
(c) The criteria is not based on length of service alone but shall also include the scope of the nominees contribution beyond the norm of ordinary duties of office.
(d) Nominations shall be submitted in writing to the Executive Officer by 31 August each year on the approved nomination form and shall include hockey specific qualifications.

Please find attached a copy of a Nomination Form to be utilised in the submission of information for a nominee.
I draw your attention to the closing date for nominations being Thursday 31st August 2017 and the fact that any member can nominate a recipient thus seek your assistance in distributing this opportunity throughout your networks. Whilst there is an annual limit on the number of Awards issued I encourage submission of nominees for a databank to be established as clearly there are many deserving people within the hockey community however all are unable to be recognised on this one occasion.
Should you have any queries in relation to the Awards or process please do not hesitate to contact Ian at Hockey NT accordingly.
Through the generous sponsorship of MLA Ken Vowels, we have introduced yoga as a strategy to reduce and prevent injury. It is suitable for men and women of all ages, ability and flexibility. Sessions are held on Wednesday nights.
Location: Millner School Oval (weather dependant)
Start time: Every Wednesday 5.55pm for 6pm start.
Finish time: 7.15pm. This includes a short meditation/relaxation at the end – so you can sneak away early if you need to.
Bring: Yoga mat, water and towel (We have some pilates mats available that can be used if necessary)
Cost: Members $2, including Social Members.
Non-members (i.e. family of members) $5.
Please note, as this is a new initiative we are keen to get feedback and will be learning as we go. We are not certain what numbers to expect and while our primary target for participation are members that play hockey, we welcome family members of players. As we learn more, we may need to adjust the format, eligibility for access and any other aspect of the initiative.
Please register your attendance in advance with Cath via email at Catherine.firstname.lastname@example.org or via text on 0419 441 021
Join us on ‘Tah’s Hill’ this Sunday for our club day. We will be setting up a BBQ.
